2017 | BEST PRODUCTS Stay warm and dry this winter DECEMBER 2017 | BUILDING PRODUCTS 39 No pane no gain – tricky London glazing installation gets seal of approval An innovative approach to structural glazing installation has enabled GLASSOLUTIONS to overcome a series of strict health and safety limitations on a highprofile commercial project in central London. Designed by architects Bennett’s Associates, One Bedford Avenue replaced two outdated office blocks with highly attractive and energy efficient spaces, with natural light on three sides and spectacular views at the upper levels. Using a specially designed sliding track system, GLASSOLUTIONS was able to reduce the glass installation footprint for the site, safeguard the installation team from the risks associated with working at height, and advance the speed of the installation at One Bedford Avenue. Clive Everett, GLASSOLUTIONS’ Design and Technical Director, said: “One Bedford Avenue was a development which presented us with a complex set of constraining parameters, requiring the design team to respond with an innovative and bespoke solution. “In the end, not only was the installation itself a triumph, but our innovation-led approach to ticking all the project’s boxes had other positive results, such as increasing our rate of installation and enhancing safety. www.glasssolutions.co.uk Spray foam insulation from Icynene has achieved the Energy Saving Trust EST approval for its Icynene Foamlite system. Icynene Foamlite is a spray applied insulation system developed for use in wall, roof and underfloor applications where high levels of insulation and air tightness are required. When applied, Icynene Foamlite expands 100-fold within the first few seconds, sealing all gaps, service holes and hard to reach spaces completely eliminating cold bridging. Icynene Foamlite can be applied directly to breathable and nonbreathable roof membranes without the need for an air gap. Because the foam has a soft, opencell structure it allows the free passage of moisture vapour, allowing buildings to breathe naturally. It also means that roof timbers in contact with the foam will not ‘sweat’ and promote mould growth. Paddy Leighton, Icynene UK managing director, said: “Winning EST approval is a robust process and a huge achievement for Icynene and we are delighted to have our products recognised for their high performance” The Energy Saving Trust is an independent and impartial organisation which promotes energy efficiency across the domestic housing sector, helping consumers save energy in their homes. EST also provides advice, research and consultancy services to help consumers, businesses, governments and communities achieve sustainable use of energy. Icynene provides a 25-year warranty for all its insulation products and as well as carrying EST Approval, Foamlite is also BBA Certified. www.icynene.co.uk Foam insulation system energises the market BEST PRODUCTS OF 2017 The first-layer underwear from Snickers Workwear is designed to keep your body dry and comfortable throughout your working day.
