ROOFING, CLADDING AND ACCESSORIES EXPERTISE ON SHOW Last month, more than 120 exhibitors, including manufacturers, merchants and suppliers of roofing, cladding and insulation products gathered at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena for the RCI Show. Building Products reports… 48 BUILDING PRODUCTS | DECEMBER 2017 merchant’s pitched demo rig, which played host to a series of live demonstrations featuring SIGA 39s natural slate tiles and Signature clay tiles. Displays of elZinc rhombus shingle, the Gemello twin-skin system for roof and wall applications, and Fix-R liquid waterproofing were also said to have proved ’hugely popular’ and the company reported a significant increase in both the quantity and quality of enquiries. Elsewhere, manufacturer of roofing and construction products, Easy-Trim, was exhibiting Fast becoming a regular fixture on the roofing, cladding and insulation calendar, the RCI Show returned to Coventry’s Ricoh Area in November for a third outing of product innovation, live demos and debates, and a RIBA approved seminar programme touching on some of the key issues affecting the industry. Covering everything from skills shortages to social media, seminar topics included: permanent access and collective protection with regard to safe working at height, presented by Fixfast’s John Hynes; opportunities for developing modern methods of construction in the roofing sector, delivered by the National Construction Training Services’ Livia Williams; and a review of the UK green roof market from the European Federation of Green Roof Associations’ Dusty Gedge. One of the most popular presentations was made by Dr Jonathan Evans, chairman of Ash & Lacy, who covered the topic of rainscreen cladding and fire regulations in front of a packed seminar theatre. Discussed within the context of Building Regulations and Approved Document B guidance, the presentation aimed to ‘restore confidence and give practical advice on the way forward’. Fire protection was also a key area for several exhibitors; notably Perthshire based insulation and membrane supplier, A. Proctor Group, which showcased a selection of products including the newly launched Fireshield, a vapour permeable walling underlay with a unique coating that is said to not just resist fire, but actively extinguish it. Knauf Insulation was also showcasing its building envelope solutions offering, with a particular focus on non-combustibility in rainscreens, flat roofing and external wall insulation. Elsewhere, the company was giving live installation demonstrations of its Urbanscape green roof, a lightweight system featuring a root membrane, drainage system and roll substrate, topped by a biodegradable Sedum-mix blanket layer. Knauf’s Craig O’Donnell said: “Because the RCI Show is a very specific trade show, we find the people who come here are the people that want to talk to you about the products we are promoting, so everyone that comes on the stand has a genuine query.” The ‘star’ of SIG Roofing stand was the roofing Jablite’s impressive parabola The SIG Roofing stand
