GENERAL PRODUCTS | PRODUCT PROFILES Window aids gothic revival Grade II-listed Barnes Hospital has received a new lease of life as developer Henley Homes created the Barnes Village around it, with the help of Eurocell’s Modus flush sash casement window used in anthracite grey. Alongside the 38 homes that are being constructed within the Victorian building, Henley is building a further 117 two-and four-bedroom townhouses in the hospital grounds. Featuring a 75mm six-chamber profile system, the Modus range delivers the optimum energy efficiency performance and can achieve a U-value as low as 0.7 from a standard system using tripleglazed One channel to rule them all DECEMBER 2017 | BUILDING PRODUCTS 65 units. The Modus casement, reversible and tilt and turn windows were among the first to achieve the ‘A++’ band in England and Wales for Window Energy Ratings (WERs) since the British Fenestration Rating Council (BFRC) launched the new rating in May 2015. The ‘A++’ rating is only given to those windows an energy index value equal to or greater than +20. Consisting of 50% postconsumer recycled PVC-U as standard, this range of doors and windows demonstrates a sustainable use of materials and has a smaller carbon footprint than products made or recycled outside of the UK. www.eurocell.co.uk Sleek finish adds style to R&D facility One of the world’s oldest and most famous motorcycle manufacturers, Royal Enfield, has inspired the design of a ‘striking’ new technology centre in Leicestershire, which features a range of aluminium glazing options from Senior Architectural Systems. Designed by LE1 Architects, the highly glazed facade of the twostorey research and development facility has been created by Unique Window Systems for main contractor Stepnell. With the need to maximise the flow of natural light whilst ensuring a comfortable internal working environment, a key requirement, the slim sightlines and enhanced thermal performance of Senior’s SF52 aluminium curtain wall system was used for the building’s glazed entrance. To complete the fenestration package, Senior’s slim profile thermally-broken SPW300 aluminium windows were also specified, alongside Senior’s SPW500 and SPW501 aluminium doors. Patrick Marston, marketing manager at Unique Windows Systems said: “Senior Architectural Systems provide an excellent range of aluminum products for us to fabricate from. We often have complex budget and performance requirements from our customers to consider and Senior have a portfolio of products that means we can offer our clients an array of options to best suit”. www.seniorarchitectural.co.uk Smart locking door opens new avenues European hardware distributor VBH (GB), has added the new Yale Conexis L1 smart lock to its range of innovative hardware. Yale Conexis L1 smart lock is a keyless product, operated via a key card, key tag, phone tag or a secure smartphone app, ‘Bluetooth Twist & Go’. Homeowners can monitor who is entering and leaving the home, from wherever they are. The app also has the functionality to send temporary access ‘mobile keys’ to anyone with a smartphone. The mobile key can be programmed to give access from a few hours to a number of weeks. The app also allows you to revoke access at any time. Dan Powell, maintenance and locksmith’s product manager at VBH said: “The smart lock uses four AA batteries that give the homeowner plenty of warning when they’re running low. And even if the batteries run flat, a standard 9V battery can be connected temporarily into a concealed port. If the lock is tampered with, an anti-intruder alarm is triggered via either the app or mobile key.” www.vbhgb.com Architectural hardware supplier Barrier Components’ Sabco frameless balustrade system has passed the rigorous 3kN test, confirming it offers the quality and performance for any commercial or residential installation. Barrier-Sabco is a balustrade hardware system boasting a hi-tech, ‘sleek and minimal’ finish. It is said to offer ‘the perfect cost-effective solution for frameless glass’ providing an installation that’s designed to be simple to install and achieve BS EN 6180:2011. Barrier-Sabco requires 400mm fixing centres to achieve the 1.5kN performance which is reduced to 200mm for 3Kn. It allows for easy alignment of the glass during installation providing up to +/- 15mm adjustment either way. Tightening is achieved using torx screws that can be tightened easily with a cordless screwdriver. The system includes removable covers (anodised to marine grade 20 microns) to allow the installation of the channel without risk of damaging the finish. The system can also be supplied in either a base mount or side mount and in two finishes – natural anodised or stainless steel effect anodised. Both finishes are 20 microns thick so perfect for coastal or clean room applications. www.barrier-components.co.uk
