GENERAL PRODUCTS | PRODUCT PROFILES In need of a StrongFix The new SterlingOSB StrongFix panel from Norbord has been designed to strengthen and provide secure anchorage areas in metal C-stud dry lining applications, for fixtures and fittings up to 400kg – such as cabinets, radiators, wash basins and railings. Simple to fit, SterlingOSB StrongFix is precision-engineered to fit metal C-stud walls with 600mm centres. A continuous recess down one side allows quick installation and ensures a seamless finish, ready for hanging plasterboard without adding extra thickness to the stud wall. The pre-prepared panels are said to boast the same inherent qualities as SterlingOSB 3 which, unlike ply, has no knots or voids and a consistent density throughout that allows fixings to hold securely at any point across the board. Additionally, in accordance with the requirements of BS5234 Part 2, it reportedly achieves ‘excellent’ pull-out ratings and is capable of supporting heavyweights of up to 400kg with standard wood screws. www.norbord.co.uk Tunnel gas fire opens up a world of possibilities MONTH 2017 | BUILDING PRODUCTS 71 Investing in fire-safe technology UK valve supplier, Albion Valves (UK), has added a range of fire-safe, anti-static, stainless steel ball valves to its product portfolio, designed to withhold hazardous substances in the event of a fire around the valve. The new products are suitable for installations within the pharmaceutical and petrochemical industries, as well as a variety of other industrial processes dealing with oil, gas and other flammable media, where there is an increased risk of explosion if it leaked during a fire. The anti-static device fitted on the valve, ensures that friction caused by the operation of the valve does not cause a build-up of static which could potentially spark and have disastrous consequences. The API 607 standard looks at the performance of valves by establishing limits of acceptable leakage when they are exposed to defined fire conditions. According to Albion, valves that meet the API STD 607 requirements should allow enough time for the fire to be extinguished, while still holding the pipeline media, to avoid fuelling the fire further. Fire-safe valves are also required to operate once more after fire exposure, from the ‘open' to the ‘closed' position at a high pressure. www.albionvalvesuk.com With a product range that includes high-end and mid-range gas fires, DRU Fires has released a new addition to its Maestro collection of contemporary gas fires. Maestro 75 Tunnel is a ‘seethrough’ fire that can be installed into false chimneys, room dividing walls and other architectural features. With modern homes being increasingly open plan, it provides a solution for home owners as a room divider or to create a stunning focal point that can be appreciated from both sides of the living space. It features the DRU Dynamic Flame Burner system, which generates high and dense flames, together with the DRU Eco Wave app, allowing the owner to control the flame pattern and gas consumption from a tablet or smartphone. With the fire being constructed almost entirely from glass, its appeal is enhanced by clear view nonreflective glass, which renders the glass almost invisible. In addition, the Maestro 75 Tunnel includes the DRU Easy Release door system, allowing easy access to the interior of the fire for routine cleaning and maintenance. www.drufire.com Simple operation, easy maintenance and high heat output from S-Series The S-Series of gas stoves from Nestor Martin is said to offer a blend of simple operation, easy maintenance and high heat output. There are four models in the SSeries to choose from, all of which feature the latest in ceramic burner combustion technology. The S25, S35 and S45 stoves offer performance with what is described as a ‘realistic wood fire effect’. Efficient with consistent heat, the S-Series is designed for propane or natural gas, making it suitable for urban as well as rural dwellings. The S25 has a heat output of 6kW, is 80% efficient and available in a matt graphite finish. A timer can be used to choose your own optimum switchon/ switch-off time, whilst the operation is reportedly user-friendly, making it quick and easy to attain instant heat. Due to its balanced flue, a conventional chimney will not be needed for installation and the stove only needs to be maintained once a year as part of annual professional gas safety checks. It can be installed in built-up areas, single storey extensions and many areas of the home that are unsuitable for other fuel fires and stoves. www.eurostove.co.uk
