The quilted jacket is padded with 37.5 fabric insulation for warmth and climate control that Snickers says keeps the body ‘warm or comfortably cool when you most need it’. With a waterrepellent fabric, it can be worn on its own or combined with other next generation working clothes such as base layer fleeces and shirts or outer layer waterproof shell jackets. The jacket has long arm cuffs with thumb grips for warm comfort and a high collar that delivers extra wind protection. It also features stretchable side panels for ‘comfort and flexibility’, with Cordura-reinforced elbows for durability and reflective arm details to provide enhanced visibility for personal safety. www.snickersworkwear.co.uk Providing hydrophobic coating for buildings Weberend protect by Saint-Gobain Weber is said to provide a solution for invisibly protecting external renders and other building substrates from water and liquid ingress. This hydrophobic coating is said to prevent absorption of most types of surface contamination including water, oil and graffiti and reduce the risk of algae, moss, lichen and mould. Applied by roller, brush or spray, this protective coating keeps the building exterior clean and dry, providing permanent protection while allowing the substrate to breathe. Water beads are said to simply run off the treated surface removing contaminants at the same time. Tracey Dempster, head of marketing, Saint-Gobain Weber, said: “Weberend Protect ensures dirt, stains and other atmospheric contaminants do not adhere to the surface, so preventing deterioration of surfaces. By doing so it increases the substrate lifespan and reduces maintenance costs.” Weber claim weberend protect is UV resistant, non-flammable and non-toxic. The colourless protective coating does not stain, and can be used on external renders, decorative finishes, masonry and concrete substrates. Weberend Protect is also suitable for ground and horizontal surfaces that receive high levels of foot traffic and prevents chewing gum from adhering to the surface. www.netweber.co.uk Specialist in damp-proofing and waterproofing technology, Safeguard Europe, has produced a guide on the problem of larval infestation of timber, how to accurately identify the cause and how to treat it. There are several species of woodworm native to the UK and according to Safeguard Europe, it is important that anyone involved in building maintenance or refurbishment can recognise them, as certain species can cause more damage than others. Safeguard’s Woodworm Identification and Treatment volume is packed with detailed colour photography on the likely species to be encountered in Britain – covering all their life stages, from larvae to adult. In addition to identifying woodworm, the guide covers how to check whether a woodworm infestation is still active or has died out and how to treat minor infestations of common species effectively, and for the long term. One common misconception the guide addresses is that woodworms are worms – a destructive relative of the beneficial kind found in soil. In fact, woodworm are the wood-eating larvae (maggots )of certain beetles.
