GENERAL PRODUCTS | PRODUCT PROFILES No need for a siesta with Spanish slate added to roofing range Natural slate is larger than life Roofing and cladding specialist, Cembrit, has announced the addition of two new sizes to its Glendyne range of natural slates, 60mm x 30mm and 50mm x 30mm, offering roofers larger slates and more versatility when working on lower pitched roofs. Larger slates are said to work well on low pitched roofs and are best suited for use in coastal areas where the environment has a greater degree of moisture content. The larger sized Glendyne natural slates, 60mm x 30mm and 50mm x 30mm, can be pitched at a minimum of 25° and 20° in moderate exposure zones and 30° and 22.5° in sever exposure zones respectively. The slates exceed the common 2:1 length width ratio, allowing for specification on greater range of roof pitches. The range offers a ‘quality alternative’ to Welsh slate and is readily available. Cembrit also has the facility to examine individual cases and offer specific advice on minimum pitch per project outside the parameters of BS 5534. Glendyne is tested to BS EN European standard, BS EN 12326- 1:2014. www.cembrit.co.uk JANUARY 2018 | BUILDING PRODUCTS 37 Winter wood care made easy New silicone emulsion technologies are said to ‘make winter weather problems a thing of the past’, with timber protection and ‘wood winterisation’ now made easy thanks to Roxil wood protection cream from Safeguard Europe. Roxil wood protection cream is a silicone cream emulsion used to invisibly treat absorbent wood with a single coat application, protecting it from the effects of damp and moisture. Safeguard says the benefits of an application of Roxil wood protection cream to timber on such things as sheds, fences or garden furniture, include improved appearance, increased resistance to warping, decay and rot, increased resistance to dirt and a reduction in mould and algae growth. Roxil wood protection cream is said to be easily applied by brush, or roller brush. The silicone penetrates into wood following application and forms a water repellent barrier – with full water repellency developing over a period of a month. And instead of having to repeat the process on an annual basis, Roxil wood protection cream will reportedly keep timber looking good for up to 10 years. www.safeguardeurope.com Producer and supplier of a wide range of construction materials including aggregates, asphalt and ready-mixed concrete, Aggregate Industries, has made a new addition to its range of roofing products. ‘Bradstone Azul’ will complement its existing offer of roofing tiles, after seeing a rise in demand of Spanish blue slate. The slate is said to ‘add character’ to any new external roof, extension or new build property. Aggregate say its authentic slate is in high demand amongst the UK residential market, with architects, developers and contractors explicitly specifying this product for new developments. It incorporates a distinctive colour that is described as ‘on-trend’, while also offering ‘exceptional strength and durability’. The naturally occurring slate, which originates from north-west Spain, is said to have been specifically chosen not only for its attractive, textured look, but for its minimal grading requirements. The slate can be used for residential properties, as well as commercial buildings. Jeremy Lee, sales director for Aggregate Industries, commented: “With high demand for Spanish slate in the UK roofing market, this product will meet and exceed customers’ expectations. At Aggregate Industries, we take time to research and source the best quality natural materials, so that customers can be confident they are receiving a high-quality product. Bradstone Azul is a premium tile designed to achieve an attractive finish for any property.” www.aggregate.com
