The firm’s heritage team reroofed St Vincent’s church in Sheffield city centre, as part of its transformation, by Bowmer and Kirkland’s, into a 574-bed student complex. Martin-Brooks carried out extensive timber truss replacement in the 19th century Roman Catholic church before fully insulating and recovering it in new Spanish slates. Flat roofed areas and rainwater goods were also replaced. Nick Brooks, a director at Martin-Brooks, said: “We have assisted Bowmer and Kirkland on a number of very large projects and have established an excellent relationship with its team. This year has been particularly busy, but they know we have the capacity and expertise to tackle the most complex roofs and produce the highest quality finish.” All four of the Bowmer and Kirkland assignments Martin- Brooks has carried out this year have been within the education sector, which included new build student apartments in Coventry and conversion of a Grade II listed engine shed into a students’ union facility for the University of Northampton. www.martin-brooks.co.uk Partnership aims to offer market solution for insulating plastic pipework Plastic pipework manufacturer, Durapipe UK, has formed a new partnership with Kingspan Industrial Insulation, to offer the market a solution for insulating plastic pipework for water applications, across building services and industrial sectors. Kooltherm FM Pipe Insulation has a Class 0 fire rating and a Euroclass reaction to fire rating of BL,s1,d0, making it suitable for all internal pipework applications. The church required a complete overhaul and replacement of the rainwater system to the north and south aisles, vestry and sacristy. Williams & Burrows, architect Jonathan Rhind Architects and ARP collaborated to ensure that the correct product, the right quantities, and a high-quality cast iron was all present in the rainwater system, and that it would be in keeping with the traditional style of the Grade I listed church. The refurbishment included installing Britannia cast iron moulded ogee gutter and reBuctangular cast collared downpipes. The profiles and painted finish are in keeping with the traditional style of the building and Britannia Cast Iron is expected to last for at least 100 years, providing it is maintained and repainted regularly. The Britannia range of gutters, downpipes and hoppers are available either primed or painted to eight standard colours. www.arp-ltd.com Manufacturer of sealants, adhesives and building chemicals, Bond It, has enhanced its product offer with the launch of a new range.
