Bespoke pendants enhance ‘urban feel’ Almost 100 cyclists from British Gypsum arrived in sunny Skegness in Lincolnshire on Saturday, June 10, having cycled 100 miles from the Barrow-Upon-Soar plaster manufacturing plant in Leicestershire – the largest plant of its kind in Europe. The hope is that the event will raise more than £15,000 for the Nottingham Hospitals Charity. This is the 10th year the event has been run by employees of the East Midlands-based company and the cyclists have made nearly £250,000 for various good causes since it started. The picture shows a wet start from the Barrow-Upon Soar plant, but ‘sunny Skeggy’ lived up to its name when the cyclists arrived. www.british-gypsum.com EDITOR’S CHOICE Time is running out Organisers of the National Insulation Industry Awards are encouraging even more industry ‘players’ to take part in this year’s event, and they have until August 25 to apply. There are 19 categories from which to choose, covering manufacturers, installers, products, projects, apprentices, marketing initiatives, BIM and Health and Safety. TV personality Nick Knowles will host for the awards night on November 30 at the East Midlands Conference Centre and Orchard Hotel in Nottingham when more than 600 guests are expected for the five-course gala dinner. www.insulationawards.co.uk Manufacturers’ survey launched Working with the Construction Products Association, NBS has launched a new survey to understand construction product manufacturers’ views on BIM. This new survey is seen as being a good opportunity to assess the current status of the construction product manufacturing sector in regards to BIM. Recent data shows that 70% of specifiers need manufacturers to provide them with BIM objects, and this latest survey has been introduced to try and understand what challenges manufacturers are facing when it comes to meeting the growing demand for BIM. The survey will also look into manufacturer views on a range of BIM related topics including attitudes towards BIM, thoughts on its adoption and maturity, and the 2016 mandate. thenbs.com Heroic ambitions Well known for its plastic piping, rainwater systems and underfloor heating, Polypipe is now embarking on a charity project – a three-year partnership with Help for Heroes. This arrangement will see the manufacturer helping to raise funds to support those with injuries and illnesses sustained while serving in the British Armed Forces. This fund raising exercise will be through a variety of initiatives, including making the charity an official recipient of funds raised through this year’s Polypipe Sailing Regatta. The annual sailing event sees over 60 teams participate in an exhilarating yacht race on the Solent, all while raising funds for worthwhile charitable causes, with Help for Heroes being the main beneficiary of the event in September. As well as raising money to support the work of Help for Heroes, Polypipe will be helping Veterans to re-enter the work force upon their return from service.
