DOORS, WINDOWS AND ACCESSORIES STEERING THE FUTURE DIRECTION With a constantly evolving market, design and material trends are embraced from many different sources for windows and doors, complete with the furniture and accessories that they require. It seems that changing trends are taking their inspiration from the car industry, as Teresa Humphries explains. Windows and doors are very much JULY 2017 | BUILDING PRODUCTS 41 under the spotlight these days and that is making for some interesting developments in the available product range for specifiers and property developers to consider. Windows are no longer an afterthought in the design or renovation process. Quite often used as a focal point or feature in a room, people are paying far more attention to the hardware that their windows require. One particular trend is the continued growth in modern extensions coupled with the development and refurbishment of older properties. The increase in property prices has encouraged many to make the most of what they have instead of moving home. A development such as this will see the need for traditional sash and modern casement windows, plus doors to coordinate with a perfectly matched range of hardware and accessories. The ability to colour suite these elements is becoming a critical design choice for many. There is a clear and relentless trend to ‘bring the outside in’. The impact is an increase in the size of windows to maximise light, frame the view and prompt a more spacious and airy feel to even the smallest of rooms.
