INSULATION AND ACOUSTICS | PRODUCT PROFILES Conservatory extension brought back to life with internal wall insulation Rendered unusable by cold, mould and condensation – a Pulborough conservatory extension has been brought back into everyday use thanks to Ultrotherm Internal Wall Insulation (IWI) from Safeguard Europe. The property in West Sussex has had various extensions added to it – including a brick-built conservatory area on the ground floor. The walls of the extension are weather facing on three sides, with each exterior wall featuring large windows. And because the conservatory was so exposed to the elements, large amounts of condensation and significant mould growth were present, while decoration had spoiled. Supplied in a tile format, Ultrotherm is installed over existing plaster, increasing the thermal resistance of walls to stop condensation and associated mould growth. Although only 12mm thick, Ultrotherm improves the thermal resistance of solid brick walls by 40%, creating a more comfortable living environment, reducing energy bills and reducing mould growth risk. With an expected service life in excess of 25 years, Ultrotherm offers a long-term and practical solution to condensation issues and increased energy efficiency. www.ultrotherm.com APRIL 2017 | BUILDING PRODUCTS 35 Taking the pressure at university Making the right moves in legal separation case To add impact to a prestigious reception at international law firm Goodwin for its new London offices, a moveable wall system has been designs and installed by Style. A fully glazed DORMA Varitrans partitioning wall glides effortlessly into place at the press of a button, creating a comfortable seating area separated by a corridor between the bank of lifts. The company created flexible meeting spaces in both the reception area and the open-plan conference room, which can be divided into either three meeting Some 4000m2 of Sundolitt XPS 300 grade has been selected as the preferred choice of floor insulation for new student accommodation at the University of Hull. These boards provide high thermal performance that contributes to a U value for the floor of 0.11W/m2K, and give the necessary water resistance. With the ability to withstand extreme loads, the boards were installed in layers to a thickness of 270mm, to raise the height of the ground floor. Offering high thermal performance, Sundolitt’s XPS withstands extreme loads making the material well suited for use in structures where there are strict requirements for solid flooring and foundations. Light in weight, it also offers minimal water absorption, has a long service life and is easy to handle and install. www.sundolitt.co.uk rooms, or one very large room and a smaller space. The conference suite benefits from two DORMA Moveo moveable walls which combine to divide the open plan space into different sized meeting rooms. With impressive 55dB acoustics, privacy between the rooms is assured. “Goodwin is an excellent example of how different operable wall systems can be used to great effect in the same building,” said Style’s group managing director, Julian Sargent. “The fully automatic glazed system is a stunning addition to this beautifully designed, and very chic, reception area and the flexibility it offers to divide the space quickly is incredible. “In the conference room the acoustics were critical and, thanks to the performance of the Moveo system coupled with the skill of the Style installation teams, client meetings take place undisturbed in a room that can be reconfigured quickly for different events.” www.style-partitions.co.uk
