KNAUF INSULATION | COVER STORY APRIL 2017 | BUILDING PRODUCTS 7 ‘needled’ to form a compact, dimensionally stable felt with exceptional long term water retention properties. With Urbanscape, that same 1,000m2 green roof can be achieved using less than eight pallets, or approximately two and a half tonnes of 20mm Urbanscape Green Roll Substrate The Green Roll Substrate provides fast and long term water re-absorption and water retention performance. Furthermore, with a Euroclass of A1 (non-combustible) under EN 13505-1, it will also not contribute to any stage of a fire, including a fully developed fire. The Urbanscape Green Roll Substrate forms an integral part of a complete Urbanscape system, which is installed on top of any roof. The Urbanscape system comprises the Root Membrane, Drainage System, Green Roll Substrate and a Sedum-mix Blanket produced in accordance with FLL guidelines, which includes eight to 12 different species of sedum, grown for a minimum period of 12 months and delivered with 95% coverage. Urbanscape can be installed on almost any type of flat roof construction, without compromising the structural stability – making it suitable not only for rapid installation to new build but perfectly suited for retro-fit as well. The system’s lightness significantly reduces labour intensity. It is provided with complete, easy to install layers delivered directly to site and no special equipment is required for installation. Craig O’Donnell is Systems Design Manager at Knauf Insulation. urbanscape
