In order to achieve such massive savings, global spaces are said to merge the power of IT and BeMS (building energy management systems) so that owners of large buildings such as offi ces and university buildings can optimise the heating and cooling of their rooms based on actual usage. This is said to result in a much more effi cient net spend on energy for owners, with a typical installation saving tens of thousands of pounds annually. Global spaces can reportedly be confi gured and delivered for buildings within a month, meaning that users of the new solution will be able to realise their savings in a timely fashion; with a return on investment within 12 months Paul Wetherfi eld, global associates chief executive, said: “We invest heavily in R&D and Global Spaces is a product resulting from this investment. Following a very successful roll out in a large university campus we are very excited to launch our new energy solution to the market place.” As is natural with reduced energy use, Global Spaces will also minimise the impact of increased energy use ed solutions from Newton on the environment, reportedly providing a ‘win-win’ solution for both the planet and the user. It’s also said to be highly benefi cial for people inside the buildings, as it provides an ‘optimum wellbeing environment’ in order to work, study and socialise. www.global-associates.co.uk Newton Waterproofi ng Systems has expanded its existing damp-proofi ng system with three new, BBA-certifi ed products. To prevent rising damp in newbuilds, the BBA-certifi ed physical damp-proof membrane Newton 809-DPC can be installed. However, for remedial rising damp situations, Newton says the best method is to use the Newton 804-DPC to convert an existing mortar course into a new DPC. This damp-proofi ng cream works by diffusing along the mortar course before curing into a breathable and water-repellent barrier that stops the rising damp. According to Newton, re-plastering internally is crucial to tackling hygroscopic damp. Newton 808-RA is therefore employed as a salt-resistant render additive that prevents the passage of residual moisture and hygroscopic salts from the underlying masonry to the new internal surface. www.newtonwaterproofi ng.co.uk
