PRODUCT PROFILES | DRAINAGE, PLUMBING AND WATER SUPPLY VIP introduces major innovation VIP-Polymers has launched a new chemical-resistant fl exible coupling under its VIPSeal brand that is said to ‘dramatically simplify the joining of pipes, speeding up installation, reducing costs, and minimising operational downtime’. The new VIPSealChem coupling is reportedly made for use on pipe systems where a high resistance to chemicals or extreme temperatures is required. VIPSealChem has reportedly been designed for the chemical and process, pharmaceutical, medical and research laboratories, hospitals, food and drink manufacture, and Bespoke Impey wetroom solution for Nine Elms Point Development Barratt London’s fl agship Nine Elms Point development in SW8 will reportedly offer 645 homes incorporated in seven buildings. In keeping with the modern development, Barratt London was said to be keen to specify a linear drainage channel to incorporate into the contemporary wetrooms in each apartment. The elongated width of the linear wetroom channel, meant that a standard ‘off the shelf’ product would be far too short, so Barratt London commissioned Impey’s R&D team to create a bespoke product, which would enhance the look of the wetrooms, as well as effectively draining away excess water from the rainforest showerheads. The company had the option to choose from several fi nishes, including glass and tiled inserts, and decided upon highly polished stainless-steel tops to coordinate with the contemporary wetroom Alumasc acquires drainage specialist Wade International In a strategic move that is said to strengthen the ‘rain-to-drain’ position of its Water Management division, Alumasc Group has completed the acquisition of Essexbased drainage specialist, Wade International. Wade International will join fi ve current business units under the AWMS umbrella. Steve Durdant-Hollamby, divisional managing director at Alumasc Water Management, said: “Wade has built a strong brand on the design excellence and high-quality manufacture of its products. “Its strategic focus aligns perfectly with our own and will allow us greater scope and capacity to invest in and develop the next generation of drainage systems that will defi ne new standards in performance, durability and value.” Wade International has an operational history extending over fuel storage industries. VIPSealChem FKM fl exible couplings are said to be manufactured to meet the requirements of EN681-1 WB/WD and EN295-4. FKM rubber is resistant to a broader chemical range, and has a higher temperature-resistance than EPDM rubber. Jon Crean, VIP commercial director, said: “We have developed VIPSealChem couplings to overcome installation limitations contractors have been facing with chemical resistant seals previously available.” Other chemical resistant couplings reportedly require the installer to stick expanded PTFE seals around each pipe before fi tting the coupling, then heat-shrink an FEP liner around the pipe. VIPSealChem is said to do away with these processes, which are time-consuming and can be diffi cult to carry out within worksites that often have limited space. Jon Crean continued: “Our in-house laboratory, testing and rubber compounding teams have fi ve decades. Working extensively with a variety of metals tailored to specifi c application environments, its product portfolio includes linear drainage channels, fl oor gullies and grease converters. Its highly specifi ed products have been used on many major projects both in the UK and overseas, such as The British Library and Chep Lap Kok Airport, Hong Kong.
