GENERAL PRODUCTS | PRODUCT PROFILES Timber cladding achieves harmony between traditional and contemporary For a waterside development in the rural village of Marsworth in Buckinghamshire, Silverwood Inspire timber cladding from A. Proctor Group has been selected. The Marsworth Wharf project involved the creation of 12 dwellings and the conversion of a historic workshop building on the site of a former concrete batching plant and waterways depot. Designed by architects Stride Treglown in a contemporary style, the use of natural materials, such as the timber cladding, has created a development that complements the traditional historical workshop building. Contractor Hyatt Construction chose Silverwood Inspire timber cladding in an Onyx Black shiplap tongue and groove finish for a modern aesthetic look. Silverwood timber cladding is backed by a comprehensive 10 year paint finish guarantee, and is durable up to 50 years as a result of the combined timber treatment and Silverwood factory applied paint finish. www.proctorgroup.com 01250 872261 Loose lay tiles help give a warm welcome in reception OCTOBER 2016 | BUILDING PRODUCTS 21 Flooring reflects natural surroundings of school's Irish scenery Inspired by the mountainous views surrounding Temple Carrig School in Co. Wicklow, MCOH architects specified an array of vibrant shades for the schools new building from Forbo Flooring Systems’ Marmoleum range. Each level of the school has a different theme and to distinguish each one a variety of feature colours was chosen from the range. Made from 97% natural raw materials, Marmoleum has Topshield2, a double layer waterbased finish that provides protection against scuffing and dirt, as well as being resistant to stains and chemicals, helping to ensure that the maintenance of the flooring will be minimal, whilst creating a safe and healthy indoor environment for its students and staff. Within the school’s washrooms and WCs where there is a potential for water contamination on the floor surface, Forbo’s Surestep safety flooring was installed to protect the students and staff from unnecessary slips as Forbo’s STEP range guarantees lifetime slip resistance. www.forbo-flooring.co.uk Partitioning proves positive for research facility Gypsum fibreboard partitioning by Fermacell was specified at a redeveloped research facility. Some 5,000m2 of 12mm squareedged Fermacell was used throughout the University of Edinburgh’s £11 million development of the Institute for Genetics and Molecular Medicine (IGMM) at the city’s Western General Hospital. Fermacell was specified by Oberlanders Architects LLP to repurpose existing laboratories to enable expansion of IGMM research programmes. Rob Bunworth, Oberlanders senior architect, said: “Our previous positive experience with Fermacell on several education projects in the UK led us to use the range of partition products again due to its robustness and fire/acoustic properties. An additional benefit is fermacell’s weight bearing capacity without the requirement for additional lining or support, thus providing flexibility in locating shelving, fixtures and equipment internally during the fit-out phase of the project.” www.fermacell.co.uk For the office interior of the London headquarters of biopharmaceutical company Stallergenes Greer - designed by Resonate Interior Architecture - Polyflor's Expona SimpLay PUR loose lay vinyl tiles have been specified. Expona SimpLay flooring in two contrasting wood effect designs was chosen for the refurbishment. Approximately 800m² of flooring in Grey Country Oak and Rich Walnut was installed by Sanson Contracts flooring contractors in the reception area, meeting rooms, offices, corridors and breakout areas. The Expona SimpLay collection is an adhesive-free, ready to lay product designed to reduce installation time. Available in a collection of 38 wood, stone and abstract effects, each plank or tile can easily be installed, lifted and reinstalled elsewhere without leaving any residue.
