PRODUCT PROFILES | DAMP PROOFING, SEALANTS AND ADHESIVES Translucent coating helps bring out the best of wood grain, while giving it protection to the elements Gaining Wolf in waterproofs dives under phase a rod of approval one of London Thameslink Programme One of the civil engineering structures being built as part of London’s Thameslink Programme has been part waterproofed using a high-performance membrane from Wolfin, part of the Icopal Group. Approximately 2,000m2 of the Wolfin IB PADS certified membrane was supplied direct to the London site for the Yorkshire based Waterseal (W and S) in preparation to make modules on site prior to installation. Due to possession and blockade working constraints, the specialist proposed the use of Wolfin IB to provide a waterproofing membrane to protect the structure. Throughout the pre-contract and installation process, Icopal/Wolfin 72 BUILDING PRODUCTS | OCTOBER 2017 Damp-proofing rods in the Dryrod range from Safeguard Europe has been accredited by the German WTA organisation for creating remedial damp-proof courses (DPCs) against capillary absorption in masonry, otherwise known in the UK as rising damp. Dryrod was launched in 2014 and designed to be a fast, clean, easy and effective rising damp treatment. It is a synthetic rod made from advanced polymers that is impregnated with a silane/siloxane material so that it forms a DPC in brick, coursed stone, rubble infill and cavity walls. The standard 180mm long rods are simply inserted into 12mm drilled holes at 120mm centres along continuous horizontal mortar lines. This method ensures deep penetration, whilst also delivering the exact dose in each hole without the spillage and mess. Dryrod is supplied complete with all information needed for a successful installation. This includes the number and depth of drill holes required for various wall thicknesses and types, together with suggested drilling patterns to treat stretcher bond and Flemish bond brickwork and irregular stone. www.dryrods.com offered technical support. Wolfin IB is a homogenous thermoplastic waterproofing membrane that Icopal suggest is resistant to bitumen, flux and mineral oils, as well as kerosene and acids. It is UV, microbe and red algae resistant. Grant Weston, construction director at Waterseal (W and S), said: “The involvement of ourselves in the Bermondsey project was over a 2 year period. The waterproofing was delivered during possessions and blockades throughout the duration of the project, with the membrane installation being overseen by Skanska and Network Rail.” www.wolfin.co.uk Independent supplier of professional and technically advanced wood finishes and metal coatings Symphony Coatings has been chosen by impra to be its partner for the impra lan range - a water-based system for industrial surface coating of timber designed for a long lasting finish, whatever the species, colour or application method.
