DECEUNINCK I ADVERTORIAL
EXTENDING THE POSSIBILITIES
Deceuninck MD, Rob McGlennon, says the latest generation of composite and PVC-U windows are changing
perceptions and extending the limits for commercial windows and doors.

Traditionally, specifi ers chose aluminium
for slim, strong window profi les and
a vast range of colours. Aluminium’s
strength meant they could specify large
windows and tall doors. But PVC-U was ahead for
thermal performance and ease of installation.
PVC-U was generally more cost-effective but – and
it was a big but – limited in colour options with
the result that PVC-U and white became virtually
synonymous. PVC-U was bulky, and it wasn’t strong
enough for tall windows and large doors.
In recent years aluminium windows
have improved their energy performance,
but at a cost of making an expensive
material more expensive.
Meanwhile PVC-U has
retained its lead in energy
effi ciency, and aesthetics
and colour choice have
improved no end.

Linktrusion technology extends the limits
If you want very tall windows or very large doors,
standard PVC-U profi le isn’t strong enough. But
now, Linktrusion technology, the latest innovation
from Deceuninck breaks new ground in commercial
windows and doors. The result of a €4 million
investment and over two and a half years’ research,
development and testing, Linktrusion patented
composite technology is used in Deceuninck’s
composite 5000 window system. It incorporates
immensely-strong pultruded glass-fi bre in
PVC-U profi les, plus optional patented thermal
reinforcement with embedded steel wires in a lowdensity
insulating foam core encased in recycled
PVC-U for excellent U-values.
Linktrusion technology is the fi rst to remove
the need for traditional steel reinforcement, and
its inherent strength allows specifi ers to consider
using very tall windows and very large doors (1,100
x 2,500 single door). The windows have slim
sightlines, are available in countless Decoroc and
foiled colours and are 100% recyclable, making
Linktrusion a true alternative to aluminium.
Deceuninck recently took a group of major
developers to its Belgium headquarters, and they
were blown away by our 5,000 windows made
with Linktrusion. Specifi ers are quickly adopting
this innovative technology,
with recent and ongoing clients
including Crest Nicholson,
Catalyst Housing, Countryside
Properties and Berkeley Group.
Products for the real world
Deceuninck designs commercial windows and doors
for the real world. Our products are engineered
for aesthetics with perfect symmetry and balanced
sightlines, and tested for long-term performance.
Deceuninck’s Decoroc colour coating system, for
example, is developed specifi cally for commercial
applications. Very similar in appearance to powdercoated
aluminium, it’s available in countless colour
options. The coating is micro-sprayed for a highly
durable, easy-clean matt fi nish and comes with a
10-year guarantee. Decoroc is scratch, impact and
abrasion resistant, and easily repaired in sections if
Our Fully Reversible Window (FRW) is a star
in the commercial sector and a popular choice for
high-rise developments. The FRW sets new standards
in performance with PAS24 security, 1050Pa water
tightness, 600Pa air permeability and 2,400Pa
wind loading. The FRW also achieves a 1.3 U-value
double-glazed and a 0.84 U-value triple-glazed,
incorporating Linktrusion with BlueForce insulated
reinforcement with steel wire-foam technology. It’s
easy to install and has an extra screw fi xing and lug
fi xing options for smooth rotation.
With a maximum size of 1.4m x 1.4m and
80kg weight limit and choice of hardware options,
Deceuninck’s FRW is perfect for modern buildings
with large window apertures.
A commercial partner
Deceuninck has built strong relationships with
specifi ers, developers and commercial fabricators
resulting in specifi cations across a large number of
projects including Imperial College London (1,100
apartments), Hinkley Point staff accommodation
(1,400 apartments), Ocean Village in Southampton
(700 frames), Oakgrove Housing (5,000 frames)
and Trafford House in Basildon (4,500 apartments).
Deceuninck gives commercial fabricators the
tools to succeed, from lead generation, best in
class products and near-perfect 99% on time in
full deliveries, to full technical support from pitch
to completion. Commercial projects often have
stringent technical requirements and Deceuninck’s
technical team is on hand to supply accurate data
and test results to help fabricators meet the spec.
Acoustics is fast becoming a critical point in
specifi cation, with architects keen to minimise the
impact of noise. So, in response to growing demand
for acoustic performance, we are the fi rst PVC-U
systems company to commit to acoustic testing of
our full product range, working in partnership with
Bluesky Certifi cation and the University of Salford.
