Saint-Gobain to invest £20m in new Celotex production facility
Saint-Gobain UK and Ireland is to invest £20m in a new production facility for insulation specialist Celotex.
Saint-Gobain has submitted a planning application for the production facility, which will be located next to Saint-Gobain’s Glass manufacturing facility in Eggborough, with production due to begin in Spring of 2017 if plans are approved by Selby District Council.
Celotex has been operating for 90 years and making PIR in the UK since 1980. The company now employs 220 people at its only production site in Suffolk, where there are two similar production lines to the one that will be constructed at the new facility in Eggborough.
Saint-Gobain says the investment will enable Celotex to “ensure it continues to meet the needs of the developing market for insulation products in the UK, while also meeting the future needs of its customers.”
The development will create up to 50 skilled, high-quality jobs in the local area, with a further 50 in its local supplier and contractor network, in addition to the 210 jobs already provided by Saint-Gobain at Saint-Gobain’s Glass Production site in Eggborough.
Mike Chaldecott, general delegate for Saint-Gobain in the UK & Ireland, said: “Celotex has continued to go from strength to strength in the last few years, and we’re delighted to continue to invest in the business to enable Celotex to meet the growing needs of its customers and the increasing demand in the market for innovative, high-performing insulation.
“The plans will make use of an existing Saint-Gobain site and provide another 100 high-quality jobs in the local area, where Saint-Gobain Glass have been employing more than 200 local people since 2007.”
Craig Chambers, managing director for Celotex, added: “We are hopeful that Selby District Council will approve the plans so that we can begin groundworks, with a view to opening the new facility in Spring 2017. We have done a considerable amount of detailed work before submitting the application in order to model vehicle movements into the site, conduct detailed ecological surveys and consider landscaping around the new facility.
“This is great news for our customers and will enable us to continue to provide first-class service and technical support to our customers throughout the UK and provide a strong and sustainable base for our continued growth.”
