SIG Roofing moves in as regional hub reaches completion

A national roofing merchant has moved into its £4 million new distribution hub in the South West after the development at a multi-million pound business park reached practical completion.

Joint venture developer Richardson Barberry agreed a deal with SIG Roofing – which plays a critical role in the construction supply chain – for a 10-year lease on a 31,617 sq ft warehouse unit in Bristol.

The unit, at More+, Central Park, Avonmouth, has become SIG Roofing’s regional distribution centre for the South West, bringing new investment and securing jobs in Bristol.

The move allows the company to significantly scale-up its service offering to roofing and construction professionals in the West Country and South Wales.

The state-of-the-art, purpose-built facility will further improve customer service and satisfaction by being able to deliver an enhanced customer experience through improved stock availability and delivery capabilities.

The More+ industrial complex has been strategically chosen for its excellent transport links, with the Avonmouth Docks and M49 motorway just a stone’s throw away.

Phase one of More+ Central Park, comprising five mid-box warehouse units totaling 174,500 sq ft, was speculatively developed by Richardson Barberry. Construction of phase two, comprising six units, is expected to begin this year. The 40-acre site is capable of accommodating 557,426 sq ft of mid-box units.

Jonathan Robinson, Barberry development director, said: “More+ Central Park has been a fantastic success story and has proved attractive to many major companies. It is the ideal location for SIG Roofing’s new regional distribution centre, prominently located next to the M49 near junction one, and will provide a welcome investment and employment boost for the area. We are delighted to welcome the company to the site, where they join other high quality occupiers.”

SIG moved into its new base after the completion of work to create three additional access doors to enable cross loading, and a second loading yard. The eight-week project was delivered by sub-contractor Quantum.

George King, divisional managing director for the South at SIG Roofing, said: “The launch of a brand new hub in Bristol is an exciting step for SIG Roofing that will help make us, as a business, more efficient and stronger.  This major investment programme signifies our commitment to providing a first-rate service to our customers, whilst also future proofing our business to further cement our number one position in the market.”

Jon added: “More+ Central Park is a best in class, trophy asset, strategically located site next to the new motorway junction of the M49, due to be completed very shortly. Our scheme offers new, self-contained detached mid-box warehouse units with large yards to a market where there is strong demand for units of this size. Being able to offer occupiers a prominent motorway connected site in this region has proved to be a major attraction.

“Following planning approval in March, the park will also have its own roadside offering providing a Eurogarages filling station, a Starbucks coffee house, KFC and McDonalds restaurant/takeways. Work has already started on an 81-bed Travelodge hotel.”

Russell Crofts, of property agents Knight Frank, added: “We are delighted to have brokered this transaction, and to see the addition of another household name to the South West’s premier distribution location.”
