Constructing Excellence South West launches the ultimate client advisor guide

Constructing Excellence South West, a member-led organisation operating across the south west of England, has developed a brand new guide defining what a client advisor is and how they should behave and operate in the industry.

The Client Advisor Guide closely explores the role of a client advisor, what skills and behaviours are needed, what makes a good client advisor as well as where and when the guidance should be provided in the process.

Kevin Harris, interim CEO of Constructing Excellence South West, said: “Our experience shows that some construction clients would benefit from having more support because they don’t often work within the sector.

“At Constructing Excellence South West, we believe that clients should have access to independent advice to help them assess and articulate their business needs. They are integral to the process and should be confident that they’re receiving the best support and advice.”

The author of the guide, Andrew Brown, conducted thorough research including a desktop study, one-to-one interviews with citizens and clients advisors, and organised dedicated workshops in Birmingham and Bristol, to create this fantastic free online resource for construction clients.

“The brand-new Client Advisor Guide encourages us to revisit the role of the client advisor and suggests responses to some of the most common questions construction clients may have when they start working on a project,” adds Kevin.

“It also offers best practice guidance and sets out how client advisors should behave and operate so both sides have a clear expectation of how the relationship can work to everyone’s benefit.”
