Charity walk raises £12,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support

A team of directors from a builders merchant Selco Builders Warehouse has taken part in a charity walk to Edgbaston Stadium.
Staff from Selco walked from four of the company’s Birmingham branches to the iconic cricket venue for Birmingham Bears’ NatWest T20 Blast clash against Northamptonshire Steelbacks.
The charity walk was part of a wider fundraising day at Edgbaston which raised over £12,000 for nominated charity Macmillan Cancer Support.
Former England spinner and Warwickshire County Cricket Club sport director Ashley Giles, Birmingham Bears fast bowler Chris Wright and sports television personality Gary Newbon were special guests at a charity lunch hosted by Selco.
Macmillan volunteers collected money from supporters during the Bears’ game, with Warwickshire County Cricket Club reinforcing the fundraising initiative by making a donation of £5,000 from ticket revenues.
Fans attending the match were also encouraged to take part in a special target throwing challenge to win tickets to NatWest T20 Blast Finals Day at Edgbaston on 2nd September.
Chris Cunliffe, Selco chief executive, said: “We love getting out into the community and playing a very active role in fundraising.
“We have worked with Macmillan for over five years and with the support of our colleagues and suppliers have now raised nearly £450,000 from a range of different fundraising activities, including this event.
“We were delighted to welcome guests to our charity dinner and auction and are also extremely grateful for the support of the Birmingham Bears fans who helped in raising a staggering amount of money for our nominated charity.”
Adam Nash, corporate partnership manager from Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “Our partnership with Selco has blossomed over the past five years and we really can’t thank them enough for their generous support.
“The money raised at Edgbaston will go a long way to help Macmillan support people living with cancer.”
