Housebuilder plays its part in UK’S West Midlands economy

Housebuilder Barratt and David Wilson Homes Mercia, which builds properties throughout the West Midlands, has built 490 homes in its operational area during the past year and contributed £103m to the UK’s economic output.

The achievements are highlighted in a new report which measures the housebuilder’s social and economic contribution to the Midlands over the past financial year (1^st July 2019 – 30^th June 2020).

The housebuilder covers Staffordshire, Shropshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire, Worcestershire, Herefordshire and the West Midlands.

Included within the company’s socio-economic footprint are key figures relating to the company’s support for the housebuilding supply chain and contribution to local communities, environment, public services and employment. The figures revealed the housebuilder:

• Contributed £12m to physical works benefitting local communities (including highway and environmental improvements, affordable homes and community facilities)
• Supported 1,620 jobs directly and through its contractors and suppliers
• Directly employed 18 new graduates, trainees and apprentice on their programme
• Supported 330 subcontractor and supplier companies
• Contributed £33,000 in charitable donations

Alongside these statistics, Barratt and David Wilson Homes has also created 31.3 hectares of greenspace through public open space and private gardens.
