Local housebuilder welcomes Brendan Clarke-Smith MP to Worksop development
Local housebuilder, Barratt Homes, has welcomed Bassetlaw MP, Brendan Clarke-Smith to its Gateford Park development in Worksop, as work progresses on its next phase of new homes.
The site visit was led by site manager, Darren Thornton, following his string of national award wins from the National House Building Council (NHBC) for the quality of the homes he is building.
A second phase of the successful Gateford Park development is currently under construction, with 155 new two, three and four bedroom homes available for house hunters to buy since last month. This follows the first phase of the development, which saw the housebuilders Barratt and David Wilson Homes build 250 new homes.
As part of the schemes’ planning agreement with Bassetlaw District Council and Nottinghamshire County Council, Barratt and David Wilson Homes will contribute over £2.3 million towards the delivery of a new primary school and improvements of local services, including public transport and green open spaces.
Later this summer, David Wilson Homes is also set to bring a further 107 three and four bedroom luxury homes to the market at its adjacent Gateford Manor development.
Brendan Clarke-Smith MP was welcomed onto the site by Barratt Developments Yorkshire East’s Managing Director Daniel Smith, Barratt Developments North Midlands’ Managing Director Mark Cotes, and Site Manager Darren Thornton, where he was given an insightful tour of the development.
During the tour, Brendan was also given an overview of the COVID-secure approach the five star housebuilder has been taking to working on site, which has been certified by the British Safety Council.
Darren Thornton has achieved the highly revered NHBC Pride in the Job Quality Award and a Seal of Excellence Award for his work on the Gateford Park site. Starting out as a labourer many years ago, and working in various roles before being given the opportunity and support by Barratt Developments, Darren was able to then go on to become an award-winning Site Manager.
Brendan Clarke-Smith, Conservative MP for Bassetlaw, commented: “I was pleased to have been invited to Gateford Park and to learn more about the variety of attractive new homes being built for those in the Bassetlaw area. The prestigious award that both Barratt Developments and Darren Thornton have won is fully deserved and it is clear that the development of Gateford Park will be a major boost to the local housing market. And I look forward to meeting with the team again to discuss investment in local infrastructure and services.”
