Reducing the risk of flooding

MacoAccording to hardware manufacturer, MACO around 5.4 million properties are at risk of flooding from rivers and the sea, surface water or both in England alone. Further new developments over the coming years may add further to this issue with annual flood damage costs for the whole of the UK estimated to be in the region of £1.1 billion.

MACO says it is not possible to prevent all flooding or coastal erosion, but the impacts on communities can be reduced with effective flood and coastal erosion risk management.

The company says this leads to the question ‘how does the developer or homeowner significantly reduce the risk of surface water flooding?’

One option, according to MACO is that houses must be built with better drainage, non-return drain valves to existing and new housing stock and could add porous drives to support the management of water flow.

With 15 locking points, MACO offer a flood door lock solution.

Using existing elements from the Multi Matic tilt turn system and incorporating it with the C-TS Combined door lock MACO have produced an effective system offering additional perimeter locking around the threshold and hinge side of the door ensuring water egress is prevented.

Successfully tested to PAS1188-1:2014 flood protection products and Building aperture products.

A benefit of the flood door solution from MACO is in its use of existing product lines meaning anyone who is already using MACO C-TS combined door locks and Multi Matic tilt turn can offer this solution from stock.

MACO will be exhibiting at the FiT Show, NEC Birmingham 23-25 May 2017, Stand E20. enquiry@macouk.net
