Senior creates a warm welcome at RHS Wisley
Senior Architectural Systems has delivered a façade package for the new Welcome Building at the Royal Horticultural Society’s garden at Wisley in Surrey, working in collaboration with main contractor, Buckingham Group, and supply chain partner, Elite Aluminium Systems.
The new building has transformed the entrance to the garden with its light and airy design devised by architect, KSS, as part of an overall masterplan led by Fielden Clegg Bradley. Comprising a new shop, garden centre, restaurant and café with both indoor and outdoor seating, the layout of the new facility is based around an open-air ‘village square’, which provides an attractive outdoor space that can be used for special events at the garden.
Senior’s slim profile and thermally enhanced SF52 aluminium curtain walling system has been used to create the glazed façades of the new building, helping to flood the interior space with natural light and perfectly framing the views of the surrounding gardens. The sleek aluminium curtain walling system has been integrated with Senior’s high-performance SPW501 aluminium commercial doors to provide safe and secure access, with the versatile thermally broken SPW600 aluminium casement windows used throughout to provide adequate ventilation.
To complement the natural beauty of the garden and to enhance the other materials that have been used in the design of the building envelope, including timber cladding, the aluminium frames of Senior’s fenestration systems were powder coated at the company’s facility in South Yorkshire.
RHS Wisley’s new Welcome Building was officially opened in June 2019 by gardener and television personality, Alan Titchmarsh.
