Society of Façade Engineering welcome entries for this year’s event

The 4th international competition of the Society of Façade Engineering is welcoming project entries in the latest quest to find and recognise the most exceptional architectural façades of 2016.
Past winners include projects such as Crystal Houses, Amsterdam (TU Delft & ABT Consulting Engineers); Bombay Sapphire Distillery, Hampshire UK (Arup Façade Engineering); Ryerson University, Toronto (Flynn Group); and Al Bahr Towers, Abu Dhabi (Aedis Architects).
The result of the 2016 competition was significant in emphasising that project size is irrelevant. The two winning submissions, Crystal Houses (a retail façade in Amsterdam) and 10 New Burlington Street (refurbishment of a Grade 1 listed building in Central London) presented the competition judges with quite different challenges. The outcome was winning entries that recognised markedly different approaches and skill sets in façade engineering and design.
Entries for this year’s competition are welcome from individuals, companies and project teams from around the globe and any façade project completed between 31st December 2015 and 31st December 2016 and not previously entered in an SFE competition will be considered for the awards.
Winners will be announced at the Glass Supper on Thursday 7th December in ‘The Tank’ at the Tate Modern in Central London. The event will be attended by the president of RIBA (2017/18), Ben Derbyshire.
Chairman of the competition for the SFE is Saverio Pasetto, façade technical director for Skanska UK. He said: “The standard of entries rises with each competition as does its reputation for drawing out and rewarding excellence in this most important aspect of building design. As a façade professional I encourage façade engineers and designers from around the world to submit their projects; to be recognised in this event will place their work before some of the world’s most influential façade specialists.”
