Viega Smartpress: the smart choice for composite pipe
Viega, the global manufacturer of piping systems has introduced its Smartpress press connections to the UK. The redesigned system is said to provide a quicker and more reliable method for connecting multi-layer composite pipe (MLCP).
The German-engineered stainless steel and gunmetal Smartpress connectors are reportedly suitable for a wide range of domestic and commercial applications including drinking water and heating installations. The ‘corrosion-resistant’ Smartpress fittings are available in dimensions from 16-63mm and the range includes manifold and radiator connection blocks.
Reportedly, one of the most common causes of failure in traditional press connections for MLCP is damage to the O-ring within the fitting. The Smartpress system is said to replace the traditional O-ring construction with a durable Polyphenylsulfone (PPSU) support structure that also simplifies the installation process. There is apparently no need to widen, deburr or calibrate the pipe, simply cut to the correct length, slide the fitting into place and press the connection. This reportedly provides up to a 30% time saving on-site when compared with alternative systems.
Scott James, director of Viega, said: “The advantages of MLCP, such as durability and ease of installation, has meant that it is increasingly seen as an alternative to materials such as copper. Smartpress has been engineered to provide installers with a fast and reliable connection method that also helps them to optimise the design of the system.”
